The holiday season is around the corner, and pet photos with Santa are a great way to capture joyful moments with your pup. Whether it’s your dog’s first time or they’re a seasoned Santa visitor, these tips will ensure they’re camera-ready for an unforgettable session.
Familiarize Your Pup with New Environments
Many pets may feel anxious in unfamiliar spaces, especially around lots of people or other pets. Before the photo session, take your pet to similar environments like a pet-friendly store or a local park with holiday decor. This will help them get used to new scents, sights, and sounds. If your dog is extra fearful of being around new people, in new places or is reactive in any way this is not a suitable event for them.
Exercise Before the Session
A quick walk or play session can help release some energy and allow pets to settle down more easily. Take your pet for a brisk walk or have a play session to help them relax before the photos. You don't want to completely exhaust your dog just get their body and mind moving enough to get some of their energy out.
Make Sure They’re Clean and Groomed
If your pup goes to the groomer make sure they get groomed before the shoot so they look they best. The day of the session you can give them a quick brush, clean their eyes, and make sure they look they way you like them to look. Same goes for you if you decide to join in the photo. Make sure you are wearing something you like the way you look in, have your hair and make up (if you wear it) the way you like it.. I also would stay away from wearing the color red so you don't blend in with Santa.
Arrive Early and Allow Time to Settle
Rushing can make pets feel stressed and it can make us stressed too right?. Arriving early gives them time to sniff around and get comfortable this will help them feel more comfortable when it’s time for the photos.
Safety First
Make sure your pups stay leashed and other pets stay in carriers until they are with Santa. This is for everyone's safety. When it's your turn with Santa you will be guided to either take off the leash or sometimes Santa will hold it and hide it.
Holiday Accessories for Extra Cuteness
If you're looking to add a touch of holiday cheer to your pet's photos, consider some festive accessories! With a little planning, you’ll have a wonderful keepsake to cherish for years to come.

This year, I am thrilled to have the amazing Ruby as Santa— If you have ever been to a pet photos event of mine she is always Santa or the Easter Bunny. She is an amazing animal handler with 7 years of shelter experience and 5 years of events with me. Plus, Xavier will be up front to greet you and help everything run smoothly. I truly couldn’t do this event without their support—they’re both fantastic!
